Shrimp and Bacon Grits, homemade biscuits, extended happy hour and Sunday dinner – shut your mouth and slap my mama – that is REAL southern living in Venice!

Willie Jane opened in Venice earlier this year, serving up a delicious southern fusion of low country and Caribbean cooking with a California bent.

Born in Inglewood, CA and raised on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, Willie Jane’s Executive Chef, Govind Armstrong is as unique a personality as he is a culinary talent. With his distinctive, straightforward seasonal approach to cooking, he has garnered international critical and public acclaim for his restaurant ventures.


Making a heralded mark with his Table 8 restaurants both Los Angeles and Miami, Armstrong went on to open his popular 8oz Burger Bar concept, which he is currently expanding in several cities nationwide. Remaining strongly committed to market-driven, locally sourced ingredients that are the foundation of signature California style and cuisine.

True to form and philosophy, Armstrong’s most recent venture, the first from the recently formed Post & Beam Hospitality Group anchored with restaurateur Brad Johnson is Willie Jane, which features Armstrong’s take on Southern American cuisine with an emphasis on low country coastal dishes and a selection of large format plates to be enjoyed family-style in the heart of Venice, CA.

They also introduced an extended happy hour, now available from 2:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. so diners can enjoy $5 “garden to glass” cocktails and bar bites to accompany NFL’s afternoon and evening games.
